Poetry in the Arabic Language of Abu al-Atahiyah (748-828 CE). From present day Iraq, Abu al-Atahiyah was one of the most famous poets of the Abbasid era. His poetry was more philosophical, and he was one of the first to drop the old desert poetry form of qasida (elegy), using many metres.
