Oscar, a ten-year-old boy, lives in a children's hospital, with volunteer nurses called Pink Ladies and Mamie-Rose, being the oldest Pink Lady. She is retired but still actively volunteering with this group. After a failed bone marrow transplant, he thinks he is doomed.
